The Guns we knew are silent now, and cold,

Short years ago they spoke and sang with fire:

Grim voices heard in many a troubled land

Death and destruction close on every hand,

Now melted down for scrap, their story told . . .

What of the men who served the Guns so well?

United with them in their frenzied quest . . .

So many gone, and others---who can tell?

To join the guns in their eternal rest?

God and the Soldier we adore;
In times of danger, not before.
Danger past and all things righted;
God’s forgotten, the Soldier slighted.

When danger is nigh,
God and the Soldier is the cry.
When danger's past,
God and the Soldier are forgotten fast."
